Hello everyone, the problem arose when assembling the starter donkey of a Renault clio 98 after an almost complete repair, in which I changed the armature, bénix, solenoid and carbon carrier. The armature had shortened after one of the screws of the carbon carrier was released and the metal plate brushed the collector and stripped some wires. As I said, the problem arises when assembling the donkey, since it gives me continuity between the positive and the carcass. If I test the platelet separately, the positive coals do not give continuity with the negative ones, but as soon as I place the carbon holder assembly in the collector and then the lid, it gives me continuity. Actually, what I want to know is whether this should be the case or if it is a fault that causes the donkey to malfunction, which is heavy. From already thank you very much

Goodnight. Are you doing this continuity test with a multimeter?

Friend while the plate and coals are on will always have continuity. The heavy starter can be desoldered coil or worn bushings

Hi Jhonhander, yes, I did the multimeter test. A couple of hours ago I finished corroborating that the problem was not the donkey but the battery; I put it to charge and did not charge more than 11.30 volts after several hours. So I tested the donkey in the battery of a friend's car and it went very well. It means that continuity does not affect the proper functioning of the donkey, as suggested by BIN2013. The battery is about to turn four, so it was time to renew it. I hope that changing the battery will end the problem. Thank you both for your answers! Ignatius

Exactly why I asked you if you did the test with a multimeter because it will always give you continuity it is best to test it directly with a battery = D

Yes, it is so, only I did not suspect that the battery was already depleted. It was a combination of both, because the donkey still needed repair. I thank you again. Sincerely. Ignatius
