The T-CON board, also called the time control board, is part of an LCD screen that transmits messages between the device's processor - your brain - and the screen. The T-CON board is responsible for synchronizing the different parts of the screen with the information it receives from the processor. When it fails, the time between the different parts of the board is interrupted, which leads to erroneous, horizontal or vertical lines, as well as pixelation. The only repair is to replace the T-CON board, which generally means replacing the entire LCD screen and usually the entire device.
Automated tape joints, or TAB , are an integral part of any LCD monitor. These unions digitize the information they receive from the processor and send it to very small transistors that create the electrical currents that cause the colors you see on the screen. A TAB failure - also known as a TAB error - occurs when these junctions are damaged or disconnected from the processor. When this happens, entire rows or columns of pixels can be turned off because they are not receiving messages from the processor to create their colors. TABs can usually be rejoined by a professional television technician but over time they can become so loose or so problematic that they will need to be completely replaced.
Also known as low-voltage signal differential, LVDS cable systems use copper twisted cables to carry high-performance information. This technology is more efficient than the first electrical systems used in LCD products and can reduce the cost of electricity to power the screen. Even so, when the copper cable that forms the LVDS is compromised, either by a jolt or by residual damage, it interferes with the signal it carries from the processor to the LCD screen. As with the failure of the T-CON board, it results in pixelation as well as vertical and horizontal lines on the screen.
