I have a double acting hydraulic pump, 2500 psi 12 V output diameter 3/8 inch, 2 gallon capacity, is for hydraulic ramp, but I would like to know what is the most capacity piston in Toenladas that I can put since I would like to put it in a compactor? How many tons of pressure could my compactor have with this pump? Greetings and thanks :)

Jorge, depending on the system or device that you design to be able to reach infinite tons, what I mean is that you must give more data, what will you compact ?, weight, volume, etc., that pump gives a pressure of 180 kg / cm2, with a piston diameter 100 mm. It will have a maximum thrust force of 7853 kg, with a 500 mm piston. diameter would be about 353 tons and so on. luck

Thank you very much for the help, I want to compact paper, I would like to make bales of 40 to 60 kg with it but it has to be small the hydraulic pump was for a hydraulic ramp, it is connected to a battery, 12 V. It is possible to make this mini compactor using only the 12V battery? I would like the piston to be 80 cm to 1 meter in length.
I will be grateful with any information you can provide me

George For what you request, it must be done by a company dedicated to high pressure hydraulic systems. Any oil filtration at high pressure is serious. In addition to the maximum force exerted by the piston, it must be calculated, so as not to have other problems.

I explain how the calculation should be done and what are the variables to consider, which you should know or find out as a user. 1- I need to know what compression force I need to make a cardboard bale as you want (I, particularly, I don't know). This will tell me what minimum piston diameter I need, taking a given working pressure, which must be less than the max pressure delivered by the pump. Playing with these variables you can determine them, it is not convenient to work with very high pressures (your equipment delivers 175 bar, a relatively high pressure) since the hoses and connectors have prices that depend on the pressure they endure. industrially in gral 80 bar is taken. 2- you talk about a cylinder of 80 to 100 cm of stroke, that will give you a filling volume. Depending on the filling time, you will get the FLOW from the pump you need. If you want to make a bale in 2 days the team is very different to if you want to do it in 2 seconds. (Obviously, in the first case your flow would be very low) 3 - multiply the pressure by the flow rate (in addition to some correction factors) and get the power you need, that is, the power of your electric motor in this case (do not confuse power with voltage, in your motor the voltage is 12 v, the power does not indicate). There is no way for a team of endless tons !!! in that case you could make a black hole that absorbs the world we know and that would be terrible !!
