Hi. what protection to place on the main board (thermal and circuit breaker), for a three-phase air conditioner, its label says Normal, 6600 W - 11.2 A - Maximum, 8700 W - 14.8 A, and what cable diameter to use for said connected. The air is 10 meters away from the board. Thank you...

Hello, if you have three-phase and at its maximum consumption it is 8700 W, it would give about 20 amps, but if on the manufacturer's label it says 14.8 amps, that will be the actual consumption, in any case the cable and thermal to be used will be on the maximum consumption (15 ampers) Cable: 2.5 mm2 that supports 18 amp in three-phase (do not take into account the voltage drop that is calculated by distance) Thermal: 16 amperes would be the right thing, although it would be at the limit you would have an ampere to spare If it consumed more amper, than you could measure it with an amperometric clamp, you would have to use a 4 mm2 cable that supports 25A with its 25 amper thermal if the air consumption were greater than 18 amper

Thank you, but I don't understand how you calculate that 8700 W gives 20A. What formula would it be.

Divide the watts. Bone the power with the voltage in this case 380 v since you mention three-phase
I apply ohm's law

Your concept is wrong
The three-phase power is not calculated like this
I = 8700W / (380x1.73xcos phi)
This would give broad strokes ... considering a cos of 0.9, the amperage mentioned

Ok, thanks for the clarification I did not know about 1.73 since I did not habituate to handle three-phase calculations, but now that you mentioned 1.73 I remember coming from the square root of 3 although I have to study that concept, anyway, thanks
Cheers

The cable to be used can be 2.5mm2 without problems. The protection would be 16A details: CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INSTALLATION Installation Type: Pipe Frequency: 50 Hz Circuit: Three Phase with Neutral Voltage: 380 Volt Consumption: 15 A 15 A Length of the line: 10 meters Maximum voltage drop: 5% Power factor: [/b[0.85 [b] Efficiency of the installation: [/b[1.00 [b] CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CABLE DRIVER TYPE: Plastix CF (Cu) 1x2.5 mm2 Resistance at 50 Hz and 70 ºC: 9.548 Ohm / km Reactance at 50 Hz and 70 ºC: 0.100 Ohm / km Admissible Current: 21.00 A Voltage drop: 0.56%

Calculation will be a minimum 6 tn equipment .... I recommend thermal 20A (tetrapolar) differential switch ... (if required) 4x25 A 0.03A although it may be included in the general differential protection of 30 mA always the circuit cannot be unlinked from the main board header device. so.... thermal 4x20A, differential 4x25 / 30 mA and 4 mm² cables, (beyond the calculation of voltage drop made by the colleague) this is because the thermal of 16 is damasiated adjusted Cheers
