Household Electricity

Burned Circuit Breaker

Hi. I had a problem this morning. I woke up at approximately 3 am because of the heat and I realized that there was no light since the fan was not working. Initially I thought it was the problem of the electric company but when I woke up I saw that my neighbors had lights on. When I went to see the box I realized that the lid had a melted part under the keys. When I removed the lid I found the neutral of the circuit breaker completely melted. The strange thing is that at that time there was almost no consumption in the house beyond the TV in my daughter's room. The circuit breaker is a 25A 30mA Schneider Electric. Neither the circuit breaker nor the thermals had jumped. It is also worth noting that a few months ago I did all the new electrical installation with 10mm and 5mm cables to the electrical outlets and switches. Now I jumped the wires and I was left with only the thermal of the box and the thermal of the input pillar. I am really worried since there was no modification in the electricity network in the last 4 months. Could it be that the terminal was not properly adjusted? Why did it melt and the thermal didn't jump? If there was a short circuit I should have skipped the circuit breaker ... I am really uneasy, today I will go to buy a new circuit breaker but I would like to hear your opinions about it. From already thank you very much.

I forgot to add that we don't have air conditioning in my house. The consumption is 3 tv, 3 pc, refrigerator, and the pump to charge water in the tank, but it is something that is used for a little while a day.

Hello You gave yourself the answer, loose terminal It is quite common and does not require large consumption to occur If I burn part of the board you must change it too regards

Everything is working 5 hours ago with the thermal. They are already using devices and I touch the key every now and then to see if it heats up but nothing. I think it was false contact. A shame because that circuit breaker is very expensive. On top of being stuck to the thermal I burn it tb. Although the thermal works I don't know if to change it ..

Everything burned must be replaced. It is very dangerous to leave. Even if I burn the board as it affects the properties of the material (thermal, dielectric and mechanical)

When connecting 10 mm² you have to be very careful because this section is very easy not to fit. To ensure proper terminals must be used
After assembling at 15 days it is recommended to review the terminal clamping

I do not know in which country you live but the correct thing in an installation with cables according to the diameter is what I indicate below: For 1.5 mm cables, the thermal must be 10A, for 2.5 mm cables, 16A, if the cable is 4 mm, the thermal is 20A, if it is 6 mm, the thermal 25A , 10 mm, the thermal of 32A. The circuit breaker must always be greater than or equal to the largest thermal key ever less than this.

Ironhand, good afternoon. Definitely as the colleagues told you, you must replace both the circuit breaker and all thermal with signs of overvoltage. My experience is something that sometimes seems ridiculous, but it does not hurt to control it and that is the ceiling fan (if that is what you have), over time the cables begin to curl and produce sporadic shorts. Sometimes it's a total short, but I also play some with intermittent shorts. You change the circuit breaker and the thermal burned and at the same time it happened again, with spaces of several months inclusive. Always at night that is when you use the fan for a long time. It is a comment that can be useful if it happens to you again. Greetings

Thank you very much for the advice, we certainly installed a fan a few months ago (ceiling). And it is not "first brand". So I will review it. Thank you.
