Why doesn't the engine start?

Hi guys, how are you? I have a question. It turns out that a friend of mine has a 3 hp 220 V motor. Well, the reason is that the engine is cut after 2 minutes, walking 10 years ago it never happened. According to an electrician, they know what tension is. That the distribution line is low. Could this be true? because in all the various no one has a light problem (220v) all use air, fans, small belt or centrifugal motors etc. this only happens to him with the engine data: It seemed strange to me the rush of his connection with his 2.5 mm cable. Apart has everything on. or turn things off and it happens the same. And he tells me that at night or at dawn he is doing perfectly. Does the consumption of the Neighborhood (the neighbors?) Have to do with it? And the blow of arran has a lot to do with it? My idea was to test with 6 mm cable direct from the line without protection just to test if the engine is raised or not working. I would like you to help me this question because according to him already passed 2 electrician and could not fix it so I ask you to give me a date I thank you very much. greetings guys☺

Hi. The rush if it is regulatory could never be 2.5 mm² but at least 4 mm². To rule out if it is a voltage problem, the voltage in the motor should be measured when it is running. Low voltage increases the current, the motor overheats and disconnects its thermal protection. Regards

Hi Eldanno As you say, with the low voltage, the engine can still be started, but it stops after a few minutes. They would have to review what is stopping it and adjusting. Because a poorly adjusted protection can make it operate when the voltage is low, because the motor compensates for it by increasing the current, further decreasing the voltage. In addition to what is recommended by servimat, one way to improve the voltage, due to the low power factor of both the motor and the installation, is to put a 2V 250V KVAR capacitor. Comment if they find what stops him, to tell you what to do. Regards
