Hi, I want to do the next test at my house and he asked not to screw up. Assemble a 25 and 15 amp circuit breaker and thermal box respectively. With male and female tab to have obvious voltage at the input and output and their respective ground wire apart from the phase and neutral. And assemble two three-leg sockets with a male tab to plug into the female of the box and I want to cause the circuit breaker to jump for a test I want to do. The question is whether I can also skip the circuit breaker in my apartment? I would plug the box into an outlet on the wall of the apartment. I hope I was clear. Thank you, Juan Carlos

Hello The differential circuit breaker tests if there is a difference between the current in the phase and the neutral current flowing through it, in case of leakage, that test ceases to be zero and as greater than a certain value (for 30 mA) then disconnect ("jump"). Because of the above, you can do two different tests to verify the functionality of the circuit breaker, one is to simulate a physical earth leakage with a resistor connected to the phase that allows more current of the trip value (usually 30 mA) to pass, this is a real leak; another, connecting the same resistance between the phase input and the neutral output, where the current flowing not measured by the device, this when it exceeds the current differential will jump without a real leak, since it is a direct step between the input and output. Finally, if you put a resistance to ground, that differential will jump and possibly the others that are upstream, depending on the current that passes and the trip calibration; If you place a resistor between the input and output (test 2), only the power cutter involved will be skipped. The second test is what you should do, and the resistance should not necessarily be external, since pressing the test button on the differential circuit breaker is exactly what I have described, you connect a calibrated resistor. Hello good day, your answer is very good. I tell you the test I wanted to do, just to make a grounding, put a wire in the phase and another in the ground so that the circuit breaker of the arming box will jump. Obviously it works because I already tried the Test. For what you put can also jump the one I have in the department? But I misunderstood. Thank you

Exactly, since both will detect the leak.

Hello The single test of the test button is sufficient to recreate the leak and check the differential operation. Any creation of real leakage will not only act other differentials but will not cease to be an act with a certain level of risk, in my opinion unnecessary If the test button works instantaneously, (this is very important since it is not enough to act but also must do so in a time of the order of milliseconds), it is sufficient test to confirm the operation. If the test button does not work, you can proceed to tests such as those mentioned by Nastor, in order to confirm that the differential works or not, since many times the defect occurs in the test circuit and the differential works perfectly, and others many times it is differential defect The resistance value 6k8 x 7W or it can be any 7W lamp It is good to clarify that when it is necessary to certify a differential there are testers that not only measure the actual firing intensity but also the time For when it is required to check the facilities there are Test sheets These tabs not only check the operation of the differential generating a real well-calibrated leak but also checks the correct polarization of the socket. You can buy them or also assemble yourself with the attached circuit Provided that in a circuit there is more than one differential and both are of the same type (instantaneous 0.03A), in the event of a fault that generates a trigger situation, both differentials can act at the same time. So that this does not happen, the principal must be selective but in your case this will not be possible, so to prevent them from acting both you must take tension for the test before the house differential Regards

Hi Excellent, your answer and it was really an experiment for the circuit breaker that arises to jump. You are right that it is an unnecessary risk, it was just a test.
I started a distance electrician course for my time, and I just wanted to prove what was going on, knowing that the circuit breaker was going to jump was just a test, I won't do it just in case. thanks for everything.
regards,
Juan Carlos
