Household Electricity

Doubt about electrical installation in the house

Good morning, I'm fixing my house and I realized that the cable is a bit old but not damaged, I wish I could change all the cable and leave the new house, my concern is the following: not being able to pass the new cables through the conduits of the house, now my question is if I can leave the old cable only for lighting and throw the new cables on the other side independent of the force part, that is the electrical outlets, etc. Well, I have a 220V meter and I use 110V inside the house, using 2 independent breakers for everything, I think it would be feasible but I would like a suggestion from someone specialized. Regards

Hi Sergio: Murphy's law says: "Every effort that is made to improve something that started badly, will only make it worse," therefore, leave everything old, or put everything new. luck

If you are going to do independent channeling, there is no problem, of course, if you want everything new, it is not worth leaving the old lighting. While the doubt that the new cables do not pass is logical, if they are for lights they do not necessarily have to be very thick cables, the big problem is not that, but the old cables leave easily since sometimes they stick and complicate everything regards

You can try something that works for me and if it doesn't work out you can stop the same as you started. Connect the new cables to the tips of the old cables and try to pull the old cables to remove them and so the new ones advance and if at any time they are locked now only pull the new cables so that everything remains as before.

Good morning Sergio. When I have done the renovation of some old house, when replacing the electrical installation, the first thing you should check is if the recessed tube will be able to contain the cables you intend to introduce. As you indicate that your installation will be 110v, the intensity of the conductors will be higher than in a 220V installation. I recommend that you use multi-wire conductors and not rigid conductors. to introduce the new cables, link the new ones to the old ones stepwise and be generous with some type of dishwasher or hand cream to reduce friction and good luck
