Hello to all who read me. My question is what type of sensor to use to count the teeth of a pinion, (cogwheel) of nylon, the teeth have an approximate height of 2 mm and the speed of rotation of the pinion will be slow, I do not think it reaches more than 0 ´75 seconds per tooth, Thanks in advance and greetings

Hi Navij: if what you mention is a "gear", it would be "module 1", (the total height would be 2.16 mm), surround profile, (because I don't think it's cycloidal), it depends on what it was manufactured for, and patiently You can count your teeth by hand, with good eyesight and care.
But you want a censor therefore better explain a little better the problem you face, to suggest something useful to you. luck

What I want is for a sensor to count the teeth while it is rotating, to send that information to an arduino, and for example every fifty arduino teeth to activate a relay,
in arduino programming I don't think I have problems,
My question is what type of sensor do you recommend to read such small teeth, the type of pinion is teeth and if it is "module 1"

You can use an encoder system like the link with 600 pulses per revolution. You would have to divide the 600 by the number of teeth and you will know the number of pulses per tooth. Hi Navij, being the nylon toothed crown, you can only read the teeth or the space between them with a "Horseshoe" sensor, this is manufactured by Leuze, you have several types depending on the width of the crown. Like you could use a capacitive sensor, but the drawback is its 6mm diameter, for the detection distance there would be no problem you can read between 1 to 6mm. With this sensor, you can also read teeth or the fall off of the white space between them, their reliability is more than guaranteed. Its use in the circuit that you have developed will not present any inconvenience.
