Hi everyone, I'm Miguel111 and I have a radio and turntable of the GAKKEN brand (Japanese) with a serious buzzing problem when the engine is started, the discs are heard in the capsule but not in the speaker, the medium wave radio is going well, where do I start looking? Thanks in advance for the help you can give me. I think it has two PNP 2sb178 transistors

hello, from what I see there are 2 problems, the engine problem is quite common, usually because the collector is producing too much arc, (sparks) between the coals and the algae, it can be due to collector wear or coals, the definitive solution, is to change it, you can try intercalating between the positive and the motor power terminal, a shock wound with very fine wire, you can do it on a resistance of high value, more or less 20 turns, and placing some capacitor between the terminals of positive and negative motor power after the crash, this is provisional, and it will greatly attenuate the noise, but the solution as I told you is to change it, the other problem, the lack of audio in the speaker, could be many things, start by testing if there is audio, putting the volume to the maximum, and touching with the fingertip the capsule terminals, if there is a loud buzz when doing so, it is that the audio is fine, and sure or the capsule is wrong, you must change it, if there is no hum, it can be a problem in the amplifier or internal wiring, comments, greetings

Is the power stage the same for the radio and the turntable? Does this take a preview before?
Touching the capsule only a very faint sound is perceived, revised wiring, the information they give me is that the batteries be put upside down, could this cause these damages?

Touching with the finger works for radios to valves, for radios to transistors it does not work. If the medium wave is going well, it means that it has audio, the problem is in the capsule, unless it has an additional pre-amplifier stage.

you can try to inject audio from an external source, in the capsule cables, if the capsule is of the crystal type (Ronette) it is very likely that it does not work since it affects the humidity with the years, if it is of the ceramic type, no I think it is wrong, if the radio works the amplifier stage works, so rule out problems on that side, check the internal wiring of the arm, since the cables are very thin and can be cut, says what type of capsule brings or uploads a photo , Cheers

hello pr122, the wiring is checked, and the capsule is this.
To test if you have prior, could you put a cellphone radio signal from a cell phone through the needle wiring?

if you can do it, it starts with a small volume of the mobile, but I think, as you said that playing with the fingers there was amplification, although it is small, it may be because the device does not have much volume, this was done so that it consumes little current and the batteries last a little longer, if you have to replace the capsule, I would advise you to place a ceramic, since they adapt perfectly to the devices with glass capsule, always first check if you get spikes for it since they are very scarce, greetings and luck

putting a mobile radio signal through the headphone output of the same, at the entrance to the plate, where the capsule cables go, you can hear very little through the speaker even with the volume to the top. At the signal input of the capsule it carries a transistor, the 2sb175 will start to see how it is, I will tell how the thing is going.

try to see the state of the input electrolytic capacitors, if the device is many years old, it would not be unusual if there were any in poor condition
