You have to measure the electrical part, not between the metal parts.
It measures continuity between the coals, what can be damaged is the rotor winding. There are times when the rotor coils are made bad contact with the collector's thinner, which is where the coals make contact.
Comment if you have variable speed, as you would have another way to try it.


