Comparing the MOSFET data sheet, it is a correct replacement. If it is short, you should check the resistance of metal oxide that is connected to the SOURCE pin (S) of the MOSFET and is connected to GND. Also the oscillator and associated capacitors. Do you have the diagram? What is the model ?.
