Water Heaters (Calefones)

Electric stately heater

Good morning, the query is about an electric hot water tank, it did not heat the water, therefore I took out the thermostat and I found that it had an overheating, which I passed an sandpaper to where the connectors are stuck inside it and I tried it again, which is why it is barely warm in water now. Now turn on a few minutes, and turn off and on again. The thermostat knob turns on after half and almost to the maximum. Less does not turn on the light that shows that it is heating the water. I tried the continuity of the resistance and apparently it is not cut, if it was cut, I would not have to even warm the water, isn't it? What could cause this breakdown? Suppose I change the thermostat, I don't want to break again. What do you think?

Hi. possibly when the thermostat overheated it went out of range. When the contacts deteriorate, it is best to replace it because by sanding it removes the actual conductive layer from that surface. To test the resistance operation you can connect it directly to an outlet and leave it in operation for about 20 minutes. Regards

Clarification:
The resistance can be connected directly as long as it is submerged in water

As the continuity in the resistance was fine I figured it would not be the problem. I will change the thermostat, thank you very much!

Hello If the thermostat turns on and off without obeying the temperature regulation, the problem is the thermostat. If the resistance were the problem (which does not heat or little heat) the thermostat in proper operation would give connection and do not disconnect until the water was at cut-off temperature regards

For the doubts I consult, what delay would the hot water tank have in heating the water? That of 60 lts.

That depends on the initial water temperature and tension at all times, not being a certain value, the result is uncertain. I would say about 3 hours on average the initial heating at maximum temperature
