Good afternoon, first of all I am new to the page and I don't know if this would be the right forum to ask the question, but anyway ... I have a microwave transformer to which I took the secondary winding and wound it at 12V, the same when plugging it makes a small and continuous hum (but very slight), I would like to know if that is normal?

Regards! Look, my experience with transformers is not very broad to say, but it is very normal for a transformer to vibrate or to hear a hum. This is not because this bad assembly, rather its "plates" (as we say here to the metal that covers it) are a bit loose. If you find it very annoying, you can bathe the transformer in varnish. This removes 100% noise, but reduces it a lot.

Thank you very much, I solved it ... the question is that when I did the tests I did it with the transformer resting on a surface but without securing it with screws, that made it vibrate too much, in addition I already passed a layer of varnish ... installed and secured with screws and varnish the buzz is almost imperceptible ...
