It is the yoke that does not adapt to this plate generating the distortion of horizontal geometry and lack of height. I fear that changing the output transistor H, with or without damper, is no solution and will continue to burn it, therefore: incompatible yoke impedance. If the universal board does not bring optional pins in the connection to yoke H, there would be no way.
Without pretending to discourage you, just inform you. This universal board would be for a 21 ", (LA78040 / 41); for a 29" I would use LA78045. And, for the values in pin-cushion, flat.
